Festivals in ISLAM

There are only two Muslim festivals set down in Islamic law:
Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha ("Eid" or "Id" means festival).
Eid ul Fitr (1 Shawwal)

This marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting, and is a festival of great celebration. In Islamic countries it is a public holiday. The first Eid was celebrated in 624 CE by the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) with his friends and relatives.

Muslims are not only celebrating the end of fasting, but thanking Allah for the help and strength that he gave them throughout the previous month to help them practice self-control.

The festival begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen in the sky.

Muslims in most countries rely on news of an official sighting, rather than looking at the sky themselves.

Eid ul Fitr is very much a community festival and people go out into the streets to exchange greetings, and visit friends and relatives.

The celebratory atmosphere is increased by everyone wearing best or new clothes, and decorating their homes. There are special services out of doors and in Mosques, processions through the streets, and of course, a special celebratory meal—eaten during daytime, the first daytime meal Muslims will have had in a month.

Eid ul Adha (10 Dhul-Hijja)

The Festival of sacrifice which marks the end of the Hajj or holy pilgrimage, which is one of the 5 pillars of Islam, however it is celebrated by all Muslims, not just those who are on the pilgrimage.

The festival remembers the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son when God ordered him to. God appeared in a dream to Ibrahim and told him to sacrifice his son Isma’il. Ibrahim and Isma’il set off to Mina for the sacrifice. As they went, the devil attempted to persuade Ibrahim to disobey God and not to sacrifice his beloved son. Ibrahim drove the devil away. As Ibrahim prepared to kill his son God stopped him and gave him a sheep to sacrifice instead. Ibrahim’s complete submission to the will of God is celebrated by Muslims each year.

Each Muslim, as they celebrate, reminds themselves of their own submission to God, and their own willingness to sacrifice anything to God’s wishes.

Further Explactions of Two festivals.

There are two great festivals in Islam, 'Idul-Fitr, which falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic year, and 'Idul-Adha, which falls on the tenth day of Thul-Hijjah and coincides with the Yauman-Nahr, "Day of the Sacrifices" in the Hajj Pilgrimage as we have seen.

The first festival, Eid-ul-Fitr (the "Festival of the Breaking of the Fast"), occurs as soon as the new moon is sighted at the end of the month of fasting, namely Ramadan.

On this festival the people, having previously distributed the alms which are called the Sadaqatu'l-Fitr, assemble in the vast assembly outside the city in the Igdah, and, being led by the Imam, recite two rak'ahs of prayer. After prayers the Imam ascends the mimbar, or pulpit, and delivers the khutbah, or oration. (Hughes, A Dictionary of Islam, p. 194).

The igdah is a large place especially set aside for the large congregations who will attend the special Eid prayer early in the morning and can be an open field or flat piece of ground. It is only used as such on festival days for congregational prayers, the proper place always being the mosque on other occasions. We have already mentioned the Sadaqatul-Fitr charity in another chapter but some idea of its importance and practice is found in this quote:

On the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month, comes the Ramazan ki'Id, or Ramazan celebration, when every one who fasts before going to the place of prayer (igdah) should make the customary fast offering (roza ki fitrat), which consists in distributing among a few Faqirs some 5 lb. of wheat or other grain, dates and fruit. For until a man has distributed these gifts or the equivalent in money, the Almighty will keep his fasting suspended between Heaven and Earth. (Herklots, Islam in India, p. 113).

The Eid prayer is not only said at an unusual place but is also conducted without the usual azaan, the call to prayer.

This practice of omitting the azaan was allegedly practised by Muhammad himself and is founded on this hadith:

Jabir bin Abdullah said, "The Prophet went out on the Day of 'Id-ul-Fitr and offered the prayer before delivering the Khutba". Ata told me that during the early days of Ibn-Az-Zubair, Ibn Abbas had sent a message to him telling him that the Adhan for the 'Id Prayer was never pronounced (in the lifetime of Allah's Apostle) and the Khutba used to be delivered after the prayer. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 2, p. 41).

The festival is intended to be a festive and joyous occasion. Special foods and delicacies are prepared for the day and are distributed to neighbours and friends. Despite its importance it is considered inferior to the Eid-ul-Adha and is known as the "little feast".

Eid-ul-Adha (the "Feast of Sacrifice") is the great festival of Islam. It is also known as Baqri-Eid (the "Cow Festival") because its most important feature is the sacrifice of an animal (cow, goat, sheep, or other appropriate beast) in commemoration of the ram sacrificed by Abraham in place of his son. In Muhammad's time a camel was usually the animal sacrificed. The command to perform sacrifices is given in Surah 22.36 and although no specific day is fixed in the Qur'an the sacrificing of animals was already practiced on the last day of the pilgrimage by the pre-Islamic Arabs and the institution was duly retained. A special prayer, similar to the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer, is also offered on this day before the animals are sacrificed.

Narrated Al-Bara: I heard the Prophet delivering a Khutba saying, "The first thing to be done on this day (the first day of 'Id-ul-Adha) is to pray; and after returning from the prayer we slaughter our sacrifices (in the name of Allah), and whoever does so, he acted according to our Sunna (traditions) " (Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 2, p. 37).

Every Muslim home is obliged to offer a sacrifice on this day. The meat may be eaten by the family but a distribution of a generous share to the poor should also be made. As the two Eids are festive occasions, it is unlawful to fast on these days. Fasting on Eid-ul-Adha would, in fact, defeat the whole object of the festival for food is to be eaten on this day with a cheerful heart in remembrance of God's bounty and provision for mankind. Umar once said:

The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) prohibited fasting on these two days. As regards Id al-Adha, you eat the meat of your sacrificial animals. As for Id al-Fitr, you break (i.e. end) your fast. (Sunan Abu Dawud, Vol. 2, p. 663).

The name commonly given to the Eid sacrifice, qurbani, seems to have similar origins to the Jewish "Corban", meaning something set apart for God (Mark 7.11), and is probably derived from the Jewish word. Both Eids can last for two or three days but the prescribed rituals and prayers must be performed on the first day of each festival.

There are also several other special days which Muslims celebrate.
Al-Hijra (1 Muharram)
The Islamic New Year’s Day.

This festival commemorates the Hijra (or Hegira) in 622 CE when the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) moved from Mecca to Medina.

This was the beginning of the growth of Islam into a world faith. The Muslim calendar counts dates from the Hijra, which is why Muslim dates have the suffix A.H. (After Hijra).

There is no specific religious ritual required on this day, but Muslims will think about the general meaning of Hijra, and regard this as a good time for "New Year Resolutions".

The Qur’an uses the word Hijra to mean moving from a bad place or state of affairs to a good one - and so Muslims may think about how their faith helps them leave behind bad ways of living and achieve a better life.

Ashura (10 Muharram)
This is a holiday for Shi’a Muslims in particular, and commemorates the martyrdom of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet (pbuh) in 680 CE.

Mawlid an Nabi (12 Rabi')
The birthday of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).

At this time Muslims think about Mohammed (pbuh), and the events of his life. Muslim parents will tell stories of the Prophet’s (pbuh) life to their children.

Some Muslims disapprove of celebrating the birthday, on the grounds that it is an innovation, and innovations in religious matters are forbidden. Why? Because if changes were made in religious matters it would imply that Islam was not complete when it was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), or that the Prophet (pbuh) did not tell Muslims everything that was revealed to him. This would be seen as highly sacrilegious by many Muslims.

Lailat al Miraj (27 Rajab)
The night journey and ascent of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), and the revelation of Salat.

The festival is celebrated by telling the story of how the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) was visited by two archangels while he was asleep, who purified his heart and filled him with knowledge and faith. The Prophet (pbuh) travelled from Mecca to Jerusalem in a single night on a strange winged creature called Buraq. From Jerusalem he ascended into heaven, where he met the earlier prophets, and eventually God. During his time in heaven Mohammed (pbuh) was told of the duty of Muslims to recite Salat (ritual prayer) 5 times a day.

Lailat al Qadr (27 Ramadan)
The festival of The Night of Power marks the night in which the Qur’an was first revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) by Allah. Muslims regard this as the most important event in history, and the Qur'an says that this night is better than a thousand months (97:3), and that on this night the angels descend to earth. This is a festival that Muslims spend in study and prayer. Some will spend the whole night in prayer or in reciting the Qur’an. Lailat al Qadr is a good time to ask for forgiveness. Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards (not to show off) then all his past sins will be forgiven." (Bukhari Vol 1, Book 2: 34). The date of 27 Ramadan is a traditional date, as the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) did not tell us when the Night of Power would be, although he suggested it was in the last 10 days of the month. Because of this, many Muslims will treat the last 10 days of the month of Ramadan as a particularly good time for prayer and reading the Qur’an.

SIGNIFICANCE OF MUSLIMS’ ‘EIDS (Festivals):

‘Aayshah reported that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said:

"For every people there is a feast and this is our feast." [Sahih Al-Bukhari: (vol. 5, no. 268).]

"Our feast" has a great meaning to Muslims because it tells us that our feasts are our own and derived from our Sharee‘ah alone. Holidays are usually based on religious traditions. It is very important that we demonstrate our celebrations with great joy and gathering, and observe them in such a way that distinguishes us from the Mushrikeen. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam has ordered us in numerous speeches to defy the Mushrikeen, and these ‘Eids are among what the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam wanted us to take special care of. That is why he has said, after seeing that the people of Madeenah had two holidays which they celebrated from before Islaam, which is reported by Anas ibn Maalik that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said,

"Allâh has given you better than those feasts: the ‘Eid-ul-Adh-haa (Feast of Sacrificing), and ‘Eid-ul-Fitr (feast of Breaking the fast)." [Sunan An-Nasaaee: English translation: (vol. 2, p.333, no. 1559), Sunan Abu Dauwud: English translation: (vol. 1, p.293, no. 1130). It is authenticated by Shaykh Al-Albaanee in Saheeh Sunan Aboo Daawood: vol. 1, p. 210, no.1004.]

Due to these clear facts, Muslim scholars put great emphasis on the concept of being different from the Mushrikeen in our ceremonies. This is because ceremonies have great effects over the human mind and behavior. Being different in our ceremonies means too that we must not participate in the Mushrikeen’s ceremonies on their holidays. It is mentioned in Sunan Al-Bayhaqee the statement of ‘Umar that, he said, "Do not learn the language of the Mushrikeen without a necessity nor enter the churches of Mushrikeen on their festivals because the anger of Allâh dissends on them then". Muslims should not celebrate their festivals instead they should oppose them. Muslims can fast on the Mushrikeen’s holidays.

Umm Salamah said the Prophet used to fast on Saturdays and Sundays, and when asked he said: "They are two days of Mushrikeen’s holidays so I like to oppose them in their ceremonies." [Musnad Imaam Ahmad.]

The above hadeeth is inauthentic in the view of some scholars of hadeeth like Al-Albaanee in Irwaaul Ghaleel: vol. 4, p. 125 and authentic in the view of Imaam Al-Haakim and Imaam Ath-Thahabee. Fasting on Friday or Saturday is haraam (prohibited) in Islaam when a man chooses these days as particular days for fasting and does not fast the day before or after because it is in the hadeeth narrated by Imaam At-Tirmithee which is authenticated by Al-Albaanee in Irwaaul-Ghaleel: vol. 4, p.118, no. 960. by prohibition of fasting on Saturday it is meant to oppose the Jews who keep fast on Saturday. But if someone wants to fast Saturday then he must fast Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday, two days together. Only that person is allowed to fast who has missed his fast of Ramadaan so that he can fast that day. Also the one who has vowed to fast then he can fast or fast as an atonement, and for expiation on Saturday.

Woman's rights in ISLAM

 Women rights in Islam

The issue of women in Islam, is topic of great misunderstanding and distortion due partly to a lack of understanding, but also partly due to misbehavior of some Muslims which has been taken to represent the teachings of Islam. We speak here about what Islam teaches, and that is that standard according to which Muslims are to be judged. As such, my basis and source is the Quran--the words of Allah, and the sayings of the Prophet, his deeds and his confirmation. Islamic laws are derived from these sources. To facilitate our discussion we can discuss the position of women from a spiritual, economic, social, and political standpoint.

Holy prophet (S.A.W) said,
“Among you the most respectable is the one who respects women and the most disrespectable is the one who disrespect the women.”
The above instruction of holy prophet (S.A.W) declared the ground of honor and respect for a person in Deen-e-Islam .Islam gave women an honorable life and ignite the light of rights in her life. Before Islam women were extremely deteriorated by the society. Arabs used to bury their daughters alive, wives were harshly beaten, step mother became legacy of eldest son and the sisters were given as a compensation for any sin of her family. Islam abolished all these dark practices and made the paradise under the feet of mother, guaranteed paradise to a father who brought up her daughters with love, assured paradise to the husband who care her wife and made sisters partners in the inheritance. Today Muslim woman is facing problems not because of lack of her rights in Islam but due to the male driven and illiterate society. Islam promised women respect, honor and safety before and more than any other religion, civilization and moderation. Islam gave women all rights to women before 15 centuries which any one can expect in today’s highly modern world.

The Conditions of Women in Arabia Before Islam
In those days before Islam, women were treated like slaves or property. Their personal consent concerning anything related to their well-being was considered unimportant, to such a degree that they were never even treated as a party to a marriage contract.

Women were used for one purpose, and then discarded. They had no independence, could own no property and were not allowed to inherit. In times of war, women were treated as part of the prize. Simply put, their condition was unspeakable.

In addition, the birth of a daughter in a family was not an occasion for rejoicing, but was regarded with humiliation. The practice of killing female children was uncontrolled.

With the advent of Islam came the verse from the Quran condemning those who practiced female infanticide:

"And when the news of (the birth of) a female (child) is brought to any of them, his face becomes dark, and he is filled with inward grief! He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that whereof he has been informed. Shall he keep her with dishonor or bury her in the earth? Certainly, evil is their decision."
(An-Nahl 16:58-59)

And as part of a description of various events on the Day of Judgment, the Quran mentions:

"And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do)
shall be questioned. For what sin she was killed? (At-Takwir 81:8-9)

Hadiat
Starting from the social, holy prophet (S A W) said
“Education is mandatory for men and women.”
The above hadith does not discriminating gender that means it is not only mandatory for men but also for women. Therefore no body restricts her from getting education. Its her right to get same education as her brother gets.
Holy prophet (S A W) said
“You have to get education even its available in China.”
Again there is no discrimination of gender in above hadith. If a boy can get education by traveling long distance then girl can also. She has right to go to school and mosque. If women had right to go to mosque for getting education and offer prayers during the period of holy prophet (S A W) and Caliphate than why not she has this right in today’s modern world. Hazat Ayasha(R.A) was the teacher of 8000 companions and she was expert of history, medicine, hadith, literature and law.

Once a lady came to Holy prophet (S A W) and said that she was forcefully married
by her father and she is not happy with her husband, the Holy prophet (S A W)
dissolved her marriage then and there and emphasizes for marrying couples by their consent.

AL-Quran saya

Al-Quran
“You and your wives are dresses of each other.”
Therefore it is women right that she should be entertained by her husband.
Once Holy prophet (S A W) said to one of his companion
“Why not you get marry so that you can play with your wife and she can play with you.”

Holy prophet (S A W) said,
“The person who shared his wife bed relations with anybody, he is the worst man and he cannot get even the smell of paradise.”
Similarly, when conflict between husband and wife became bone of contentions and seems unsolvable. In this case if wife no more wants to live with her husband then she has right to get diverse. In case husband is not willing to give diverse she can consult court for getting diverse.

Islam considers a woman to be equal to a man as a human being and as his partner in this life. Women have been created with a soul of the same nature as man’s. Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:

"O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife (Eve), and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever and All-Watcher over you." (Al-Nisa 4:1)

And in the words of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW),

"Assuredly, women are the twin halves of men." (Sahih reported by Abu-Dawud (RA)

Muslim Women Have the Right to Go Outside of Her Home

Muslim women are not forbidden from going out in the community, working, or visiting relatives and female friends, if there is no objection from their guardian/husband and they are covered and behave and speak according to Islamic guidelines and, if necessary, escorted by their Mahram (a close male relative). However, a woman’s home should be the main base that she works from. Allah (SWT) instructed the wife’s of the Prophet (SAW):

"O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft in speech, lest he is whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honorable manner. And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance, and offer prayers perfectly (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah wishes only to remove Ar-Rijs (evil deeds and sins, etc.) from you, O members of the family [of the Prophet (SAW)], and to purify you with a thorough purification." (Al-Ahzab 33:32-33)

Further rights of women (wife)

When Allah almighty created Eve (R.A) for Adam (R.A) .
Adam (R.A) was attracted towards Eve (R.A) and wanted to touch her.
At that time Allah almighty said to Adam (R.A) that
He should not touch her without paying her dowry.

One more thing needs attention here that Islam did not fix any maximum limit of dowry. Husband can give whatever maximum he can give to his wife.

In region of Hazrat Ummer(R.A) he forward a bill in the parliament for fixing the maximum limit of dowry. That bill was challenged by a female parliamentarian and she said nobody can fix the maximum limit of dowry if Allah himself did fix it. Hazrat ummer(R.A) asked her that why it couldn’t be fixed.
She quoted the holy Quran
“If husband gave her wife bundles and bundles of wealth as dowry even then he cannot demand anything after diverse.”
Hazrat ummer (R.A) said that she is right and today men made a mistake and women corrected him.

Holy prophet (S A W) said,
“Anyone who brought her daughters with full care and then merry them. He is as close to me as my two fingers.”

Rights of woman

EQUALITY:

Islam established a woman's equality in her humanity with men. In the Qur'an,God says,

"O mankind! Be careful of your duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it its mate and from them both have spread abroad a multitude of men and women."

Freedom of Choice:

Woman in Islam has been given the basic freedom of choice for the benefit of recognition of her own personality.Women has been allowed to use a free will in the selection of her religion. As Quran says,

"There is no compulsion in religion. Right has been made distinct from error."

SOCIAL IMPORTANCE:

The Prophet (PBUH) said,
"Seeking knowledge is a mandate for every Muslim (male and female)."

This means that the acquisition of knowledge is granted essential not only for men but alos for women. It has been regarded as their obligation for the promotion of good attitude concerning all aspects of life. For Muslim women the gain of education is conceived to be vital as it can help them in the performance of their duties towards tehri families,as a daughter,as a wife,as a mother and as a significant memebr of the society.
For women education and learnign can be of primary importance for recognising of their individual roles and also for acquiring of the basic skills which can make them strong both economically and socially accpetable.

The biggest and the formost obligation of woman is to play a role of a good mother as she can be responsible for building up a strongly based society because of her teachings that she imparts to her children. The importance of motherhood can be realized from the saying of Holy Prophet(PBUH) as
"Heaven lies under the feet of mothers"
. This implies that the success of a society can be traced to the mothers that raised it. The first and greatest influence on a person comes from the sense of security, affection, and training received from the mother. Therefore, a woman having children must be educated and conscientious in order to be a skillful parent.

ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE:

The Qur'an states:

"By the creation of the male and female; Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse."

In the above mentioned verse we see that God has created men and women to be different, with unique roles and seperate skills.Similar to a society, there is a division of responsibility for each member. Islam is of the view that women are entrusted with the nurturing role, and men play a role of a guardian, the protector.. Therefore omen have been awarded the finacial support by God.As Allah says,

Men are maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend of their wealth (for the support of women)."

Place of Daughter in Islam

Islam is known as an educational, social revolution in Arab that brought about lot of changes to eliminate all type of discrimination and to promote human rights on the basis of equality and equity. But, unfortunately, today there are certain traditional and cultural practices in different Muslim societies, which deprive women of certain rights that are granted by Islam. This discrimination starts even before the birth of a child (e.g abortion in case if the expected child is a girl) and continues throughout the child rearing and afterward. Education, inheritance, freedom of choice and opinion, standard of modesty and tolerance are so much gender based that even a mother desire to have male children for a respectable status in the family. This article will briefly look into some important Islamic perspectives about bringing up a baby-girl into a woman, which are missing in many Muslim societies due to lack of knowledge or lack of sincere intention.

By Yoosuf ibn 'Abdullaah Al-'Areefee

The encouragement to seek children covers both sons and daughters, and along with this general encouragement Islam has given special merits to seeking and bringing up girls - contrary to the thinking of the people of ignorance (age of 'Jaahiliyyah') of the past and present, since the people of ignorance - wherever and whenever found - hated (some of them 'still do') to have daughters and were grieved and angered by their births!

"And when the news of (the birth of) a female (child) is brought to any of them, his face becomes dark, and he is filled with inward grief! He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that whereof he has been informed. Shall he keep her with dishonor or bury her in the earth? Certainly, evil is their decision." (An-Nahl 16:58-59)

Daughters are without doubt a great blessing from Almighty Allah. They are a means of salvation and a path to Jannah for their parents. The Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated that when a boy is born, then he brings one Noor (light) and when a girl is born, then she brings two Noors. It has been narrated in a Hadith that the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated that if parents are kind and generous towards their daughters, then they will be so close to the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) in Jannah, like one finger is to the next. The Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has also stated that the person who is faced with hardship due to his daughters, and makes Sabr (is patient), then his daughters will be a Purdah (curtain) between him and Hell.

Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran,

Chapter 33, Verse 59: "O Prophet! Tell your wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons; that is better, that they should be known (as such) and not be molested." And in Chapter 24, Verse 31: "And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what appear thereof; that they should draw their scarves over their bosoms - "

“When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief! With shame does he hide himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? “ (Quran 16: 58,59)

Hadit:

It is evident from Prophet’s (PBUH) sayings that a daughter is bestowed as a path to eternal success for both mom and dad. Moreover, he exhorted that the attitude towards her, her upbringing and tutelage must be done with due assiduity and vigilance. The affection and affinity Prophet (PBUH) had poured upon his darling daughter Fathima (RA) and Ayesha (RA), who entered in marital life with Prophet in her early teenage, has been a sublime guideline for  parents of all times. Prophet (PBUH) adored both the tenderhearted women with due assiduity, yet with a plethora of affection. He fostered Ayesha (RA)’s lust for knowledge. 2210 hadeeth’s had been narrated by Ayesha (RA).

Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) incited: ‘Whoever had a daughter born to him, and he did not bury her alive or humiliate her, and he did not prefer his son over her, Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) will admit him to Paradise because of her.” (Abu Dawud)

islamic_parenting_girls_daughters“Whoever has three daughters, and shelters them, bearing their joys and sorrows with patience, Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) will admit him to Paradise by virtue of his compassion towards them.” A man asked, “What if he has only two, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Even if they are only two.” Another man asked, “What if he has only one, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Even if he has only one.” (Mishkath)

Prophet (PBUH), also told: “Whoever is tested with daughters and treats them well, they will be for him a shield against the Fire of Hell.” (Bukhari Muslim)

Once, one of the leaders of the believers was receiving people when a small daughter of his entered the room, so he kissed her; a Bedouin was also in attendance and saw this, so he mentioned daughters in a very evil manner. A wise man who was also present witnessed all of this and therefore said: "O leader of the believers! Do not listen to him. I swear by Allaah, that it is they (i.e., girls) who stay up to care for the sick in the family, who show mercy towards the elders, and who stand next to men during hardships."

A man was granted a baby girl, so he became angry and isolated himself from his wife for a long time, and after few months, he overheard his wife reciting the verse (which means): “…But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you…” [Quran 2:216]

Place of Father in Islam

The Importance of Fathers

It is well known that Islam places a heavy emphasis on the importance of loving and respecting parents.  In fact Allah (swt) has repeatedly mentioned in the Qur’an that parents hold the next highest status after our Lord and beloved Prophet (s).  Allah (swt) is our supreme provider, sustainer, and protector. He uses parents as a means to provide us, as we grow, with food, shelter, clothing, guidance, and protection from harm.  As creations of Allah (swt) we can never return the favors of our Lord except by being obedient and showing gratitude.  The same can be said for parents.  As children we can never repay the countless favors of our parents accept by being obedient and showing gratitude.  Allah (swt) says in Surah 17 Ayah 23:

“Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor.’

However, it is important to note that the role of a father is also highly recognized in Islam.  It is said that,

“God’s pleasure is in the pleasure of the father,

and God’s displeasure is in the displeasure of the father.”

Fathers are significant because they are commanded by Allah (swt) to work hard to provide the physical, educational, psychological, and spiritual needs of a child.  ‘Ali ibn al-Husain (r) is reported to have said,

“The right of your father on you is that you should know that

it is he who brought you into existence, and you are a branch of the tree of his life.”

Quran says;

Chapter 31 Ayah 14,

"And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal."

Chapter 17 Ayah 23,

"Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour."

Chapter 29 Ayah 8,

"We have enjoined on man kindness to parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did."

Chapter 46 Ayah 17,

"But (there is one) who says to his parents, "Fie on you! Do ye hold out the promise to me that I shall be raised up, even though generations have passed before me (without rising again)?" And they two seek Allah's aid, (and rebuke the son): "Woe to thee! Have faith! for the promise of Allah is true." But he says, "This is nothing but tales of the ancients!"

Chapter 6 Ayah 151,

"Say: "Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from": Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not nigh to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom."

He said, 'Prayer at it's correct time'. I said, 'then which action? 'He said, 'birr (good treatment, kindness) to the parents.' I said, 'then which?' He said 'Jihaad in the way of Allaah'
Abdullaah said, "He told me these, and if I had asked further, he would have told me." Saheeh - Irwaa (1197)

Chapter 2: Birr to the Mother
3/3 From Bahz bin Hakeem from his father from his grandfather who said, "I said, 'O Messenger of Allaah who is most deserving of my birr?' He said, 'your mother.' He said, 'your father, then your closest relation, then your closest relation.'" Hasan - Irwaa (2232,829)
4/4 From Ibn Abbas, "That a man came to him and said, 'I proposed to a woman and I yearned that she marry me. Then someone else proposed to her and she desired to marry him. Then I seduced her, then killed her, so is there repentance for me?' He said, 'Is your mother alive?' He replied, 'No.' So Ibn Abbas said, 'Repent to Allaah Azza wa Jall and seek to get close to Him as much as you can." (Ataa bin Yaaser) said, "so I went to Ibn Abbaas and asked him, 'Why did you ask if his Mother was alive?' He said, 'indeed I do not know an action which can get one closer to Allaah then birr to the mother'" Saheeh - as-Saheehah (2799)

He said, 'this is not from the Major sins, the major sins are nine: "Associating partners with Allaah, killing a soul, fleeing from the advancing army, to accuse a chaste woman, Eating Ribaa, Eating the property of an orphan, to apostasize in the mosque, the one who ridicules/derides others, and making the parents cry due to disobedience to them."
Ibn Umar said to me, 'Do you fear the fire and wish to enter the Paradise?' I said, 'of course, by Allaah!' He said, 'are your parents alive?' I said, 'I have a mother.' He said, 'then by Allaah! If you were to speak gently to her and feed her, you would certainly enter paradise, as long as you stay away from the Major sins.'" Saheeh, as-Saheehah (2898)

Then he removed a piece of paper and written on it was, 'Allaah curses the one who slaughters for the sake of other than Allaah. And never leave the obligatory prayers deliberately, and the one that leaves them deliberately becomes absolved of protection. And do not drink alcohol for it is the door to all evil. And obey your parents, and if they command you to leave your worldly possessions then do so for them. And do not dispute/contend with the leader of the Muslims, even if you think you are right, and do not flee from the advancing army, even if you are destroyed and your companions flee. And spend of your property on your family. And never raise your stick against your family. And fill them with the fear of Allaah." Saheeh, Irwaa (2026)

Chapter 9: The one whose parents attain old age and he does not enter paradise
16/21 From Abu Hurayra, from the Prophet (SAW) that he said, "May he be disgraced and humiliated, may he be disgraced and humiliated, may he be disgraced and humiliated." They said, "who O Messenger of Allaah?" He said, "the one whose parents attain old age, or one of them, and he enters Hellfire (by not serving them)." Saheeh, at-Ta'leeq ar-Ragheeb (3/215)

Fathers have a powerful influence on the healthy development of their daughters and sons.

School-aged children show significant gains in intellectual development when their fathers are involved with them as infants.

Involved fathers enrich their daughter’s and son’s self image.

Children who have involved fathers show more sense of humor, longer attention spans, and more eagerness for learning.

Father involvement helps teens to develop a strong sense of who they are and increases their ability to resist peer pressure.

Dads are role models who teach their children to be strong, flexible adults.

Fathers teach gender roles: they are generally more physically active with their sons and more protective of their daughters.

Fathers often think “out of the box” and offer alternative strategies for problem solving.

Dads tend to offer more physical play than mothers, which increases the physical competency of their young children.

When fathers model behaviors that are respectful to women, their sons are more likely to model their father’s respectful behavior as well.

Value of Mother in Islam

All praise is for Allah and peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.

After Allah and his Messenger (SAW) May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, the most beloved and respected person to a Muslim should be his MOTHER! Allah has given the mother such status that He says,

“ Paradise lies under the feet of mothers.”
Obedience and respect towards your mother is a very important duty in Islam and is similar to performing Salaah and keeping fast. To hurt your mother in any way is the second biggest sin and those who commit this evil sin will be harshly punished by Allah in the hereafter or maybe even in this world!

Your mother is not a Prophet, nor is she an angel; she’s just a human like you and I, so why has Allah ordered you to be obedient towards your mother and why does your mother have such a high status in Islam?

Allah loves and cares for us more than anybody else, and he especially loves those people who love and care for others. Similarly, he becomes very angry with those people who hurt other people in any way. Allah the All-Knowing, knows that in this world nobody is more loving and caring towards another person than the way that a mother is towards her child. Only Allah and his Messenger May Allah send peace and blessings upon him love you more than your mother!

Only Allah knows what your mother does for you, He sees your mother feeling pain whilst she tries to give you whatever you want. He sees your mother’s love and kindness. Pleased by your mother’s actions, Allah has given her a very high status and many virtues and rewards.

Allah also sees that many of us are not thankful to our mothers. He sees many of us being disobedient towards them. Therefore, Allah has ordered us to be good towards our mothers; he has not advised us but ordered us; we have no choice; therefore we have to be good towards our mothers! To encourage us to do this, Allah Taa’la has promised paradise for those of us who are obedient towards our mothers. At the same time, Allah has threatened to severely punish those of us who do not listen to our mothers or hurt them in any way.

In several verses of the Quran, God makes clear that duty, kindness and gratitude towards parents is an essential part of Islam.  However, women in Islam, particularly mothers, have been singled out for the upmost respect and devotion.  God Himself tells of the hardships involved in motherhood.

“And we have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents.  His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship...” (Quran 31:14)

In the time of Prophet Muhammad, a man asked permission to go on a military expedition.  The Prophet asked the man if he had a mother, when he replied yes, Prophet Muhammad said, “Stay with her because Paradise lies beneath her feet”.  (Ahmad, Al-Nasai)

Who is Most Worthy of Good Companionship?

In a hadeeth of Prophet Muhammad, a man came to the Prophet asking, ‘Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?  The Prophet said, your mother.  The man said, ‘Then who?’  The Prophet said, then your mother.  The man further asked, ‘Then who?’  The Prophet said, then your mother.  The man asked again, ‘Then who?’  The Prophet replied, then your father. (Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim)

From only these sayings of Prophet Muhammad, we are able to understand the importance of mothers in Islam.

On another occasion, the Prophet said: "God has forbidden for you to be undutiful to your mothers." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

God says;
"Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents; to Me is thy final Goal." (31:14)

"We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon

"And revere the wombs that bore you, for God is ever watchful over you." (4:1)

1) The Quran elevates kindness to parents (especially mothers) to a status second to the worship of God:

Your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to your parents. If one of them or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them a word of disrespect, or scold them, but say a generous word to them. And act humbly to them in mercy, and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them, since they cared for me when I was small.” (Quran, 17:23-24, see also 31:14, 46:15, and 29:8)

(2) Naturally, the Prophet Muhammad specified this behavior for his followers, rendering to mothers an unequalled status in human relationships. A man came to the Prophet Muhammad and said, “O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?” The Prophet said: {Your mother.} The man said, “Then who?” The Prophet said: {Then your mother.} The man further asked, “Then who?” The Prophet said: {Then your mother.} The man asked again, “Then who?” The Prophet said: {Then your father.}

Thankful to Mother

Allah also sees that many of us are not thankful to our mothers. He sees many of us being disobedient towards them. Therefore, Allah has ordered us to be good towards our mothers; he has not advised us but ordered us; we have no choice; therefore we have to be good towards our mothers! To encourage us to do this, Allah Taa’la has promised paradise for those of us who are obedient towards our mothers. At the same time, Allah has threatened to severely punish those of us who do not listen to our mothers or hurt them in any way.
But what does your Mother do for you? She only cooks and cleans! So why do you need to be thankful to your Mother?

Apart from Allah, nobody knows what our Mother really does for us.

TEN REASONS FOR BEING THANKFUL TO YOUR MOTHER:

1. YOUR MOTHER CARRIED YOU IN HER STOMACH FOR 9 MONTHS BEARING PAIN UPON PAIN!

2. DURING THIS TIME, SHE COULD NOT EAT BECAUSE OF YOU! SHE COULD NOT SLEEP BECAUSE OF YOU!

3. WHEN YOU WERE A BABY; SHE SPENT EVERY MINUTE OF HER LIFE LOOKING AFTER YOU!

4. SHE ONLY SLEPT WHEN YOU SLEPT! SHE ONLY ATE AFTER YOU HAD EATEN!

5. SHE WAS PATIENT AND LOVED YOU EVEN WHEN YOU CRIED ALL NIGHT, AND WHEN YOU CRIED ALL DAY!

6. SHE TAUGHT YOU HOW TO WALK, HOW TO SPEAK, HOW TO EAT, SHE TAUGHT YOU HOW TO LIVE!

7. WHEN YOU FALL ILL, SHE LOOKS AFTER YOU!

8. SHE ALWAYS COOKS AND PREPARES FOOD FOR YOU!

9. SHE BUYS YOU WHATEVER YOU ASK FOR!

10. SHE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO!

“…Mothers play a great role in building a generation. The better a mother is at raising her children, the more successfully the Ummah is built and the more successful it is at producing heroes. You hardly ever see a great man except that a great woman is behind him who left some of her traits in his personality by way of the milk from which he was fed and the warm embrace in which he sought refuge.

Reapect your Mother from the core of your heart it is the only way to get success in life and life after death.

Marriage in Islam

Marriage in Islam

Islam teaches us that marriage is the finest, purest and permissible relationship that should exist between a male and female; it should be the goal that they both have in mind. There is no room in Islam for illicit affairs or the Western vogue-word of boyfriend and girlfriend. All those stories of media and movies are not helpful to make a person comply with the teachings of Islam.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, says:
"Three qualities, if found in a person, will help him have perfect faith: Having Allah and His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, as the most beloved ones, loving a person only for the sake of Allah and hating getting back to Kufr (disbelief) the way one hates to be thrown into fire."
That means love is a fruit of piety. Love without piety is mischief.

There is no dating or living in de facto relationship or trying each other out before committing to each other. There is to be no physical relationship whatsoever before marriage.

In our part of the world mostly arranged marriages are done while in western culture Love marriages are more common where divorces are also very common.  What about talking point of view of Islam regarding arrange and Love marriage?

Islam gives great importance to marriage and according to a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAW a person who is capable of doing marriage must do it.  Marriage has many benefits. it saves us from going to wrong path and also brings peace in our life.

Rasool Allah SAW said that a person should chose a life partner who has virtue. Wealth, Beauty and Status are less important than Virtue in eye of Islam.

In most cases, romance and love die out very quickly when couple find themselves with the real world. The unrealistic expectation that young people have is what often contributes to the failure of their relationship.

The West makes fun of the Islamic way of marriage, in particular arranged marriage. Yet, the irony is that statistically arranged marriages prove to be more successful and lasting than romantic types of courtship. This is because people are blinded by the physical attraction and thus do not choose the compatible partner. Love blinds people to the extent of overlooking potential problems in the relationship.

There is an Arabic proverb that says: "Love is blind, it makes zucchini turn into okra". Arranged marriages, on the other hand, are based not on physical attraction or romantic notions, but rather on critical evaluation of the compatibility of the couple. That is why such marriage often proves successful.

From an Islamic perspective, in choosing a partner, the most important factor that should be taken into consideration is Taqwa (piety and consciousness of Allah). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recommended the suitors to see each other before going through with marriage procedures. That is very important because it is unreasonable for two people to be thrown into marriage and be expected to have a successful marital life, full of love and affection, when they know nothing of each other. The couple are permitted to look at each other.

Qur'anic verse that says, “…believing men and women should lower their gaze” (An-Nur: 30).
The couple, however, are not permitted to be alone in a closed room or go out together alone.

As the Hadith says: "When a man and a woman are together alone, the Shaytan (Satan) makes their third."

Jaber related that the Prophet (saws) said: ‘When one of you seeks a woman in marriage let him look at whom he wishes to marry.’

Related by Abu Dawood

Mughirah ibn Shu'bah narrated: ‘I sought a woman in marriage. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) asked me :’Have you seen her?’  I said : ‘No.’  He (saws) then said: Then look at her, because it is more proper that love should be cemented between you.’
Related by Ahmed, Ibn Majah, Nasai, and Trimidhi.

The Prophet (saws) said, "A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser."
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith  7.27         Narrated by Abu Huraira

HAdiat about Marrage
It has been narrated by Muaaz Ibn Jabal. He relates that the Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam had instructed, "When a woman causes her husband suffering his wife, amongst his celestial brides (Hooray-Ayn), curses, ‘May Allah also inflict pain on you. Don’t cause your husband suffering.’ And Oh my beloved Fatimah, reproach awaits the woman who disobeys her husband."(Ibn Maajah and Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us in many hadith about the various characteristics which one looks for in a spouse and their relative importance and which ones determine success insha'Allah and Allah's blessing on a marriage. Among those hadith:

"A woman is married for her deen, her wealth or her beauty. You must go for the one with deen, may your hands be in the dust! (if you fail to heed)" [Muslim]

   1) We were with the Prophet while we were young and had no wealth whatever. So Allah's Apostle said, "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power." Volume 7, Book 62, :Narrated 'Abdullah:

2)We presented ourselves along with Ibn 'Abbas at the funeral procession of Maimuna at a place called Sarif. Ibn 'Abbas said, "This is the wife of the Prophet so when you lift her bier, do not Jerk it or shake it much, but walk smoothly because the Prophet had nine wives and he used to observe the night turns with eight of them, and for one of them there was no night turn." Volume 7, Book 62, Narrated 'Ata:

3)The Prophet said, "The rewards (of deeds) are according to the intention, and everybody will get the reward for what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for Allah's and His Apostle's sake, his emigration was for Allah and His Apostle; and whoever emigrated for worldly benefits, or to marry a woman, then his emigration was for the thing for what he emigrated for." (1)

Volume 7, Book 62, :Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khatta

4)A woman came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have come to give you myself in marriage (without Mahr)." Allah's Apostle looked at her. He looked at her carefully and fixed his glance on her and then lowered his head. When the lady saw that he did not say anything, she sat down. A man from his companions got up and said, "O Allah's Apostle! If you are not in need of her, then marry her to me." The Prophet said, "Have you got anything to offer?" The man said, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Apostle!" The Prophet said (to him), "Go to your family and see if you have something." The man went and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, I have not found anything." Allah's Apostle said, "(Go again) and look for something, even if it is an iron ring." He went again and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Apostle! I could not find even an iron ring, but this is my Izar (waist sheet)." He had no rida. He added, "I give half of it to her." Allah's Apostle said, "What will she do with your Izar? If you wear it, she will be naked, and if she wears it, you will be naked." So that man sat down for a long while and then got up (to depart). When Allah's Apostle saw him going, he ordered that he be called back. When he came, the Prophet said, "How much of the Quran do you know?" He said, "I know such Sura and such Sura," counting them. The Prophet said, "Do you know them by heart?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Go, I marry her to you for that much of the Quran which you have." Volume 7, Book 62,
    Narrated Sahl bin Sad As-Sa'idi

Hadiat

Abu Zarr (Radiallaho Anho) narrates that once our Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) came out of his house. It was autumn and the leaves were falling from the trees. He caught hold of a branch of a tree and its leaves began to drop in large number. At this he remarked, "O Abu Zarr! When a Muslim offers his Salaah to please Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) his sins fall away from him just as these leaves are falling off this tree."

Abu Hurairah (Radiallaho Anho) narrates that once Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) asked his Sahabah, "Do you believe that dirt can remain on a person bathing five times a day in a stream running in front of his door?" "No," replied the Sahabah, "no dirt can remain on his body." Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) remarked: "So, exactly similar is the effect of salaah offered five times a day. With the Grace of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) it washes away all the sins."

Jabir (Radiallaho Anho) narrates that he heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) saying: "The likeness of five times daily salaah is of a deep stream running in front of the door of a person who bathes therein five times a day."

Abu Saeed Khudree (Radiallaho Anho) narrates that he heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) saying: "Each of the five Salaah covers up the sins committed since the salaah preceding it. To explain, let us take the case of a person working in a factory. His job is such that his body gets covered with dust. But there are five streams of running water in between the factory and his house and, on his return from the job, he takes a bath in each stream. The effect of five times daily salaah is quite similar. Any sins of omission and commission between two Salaah are forgiven on account of asking for Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) forgiveness and repentance in each salaah."

THOSE WHO DO NOT SAY THEIR PRAYERS OF

FAJAR:
THE GLOW OF THEIR FACES IS TAKEN AWAY.

DHUHR:
THE BLESSING OF THEIR INCOME IS TAKEN AWAY

ASAR:
THE STRENGH OF THEIR BODY IS TAKEN AWAY

MAGRIB:
THEY ARE NOT BENEFITED BY THEIR CHILDREN

ISHA:
THE PEACE OF THEIR SLEEP IS TAKEN AWAY

Deeds that Take You to Hell

Allah Ta’ala says, “What thing took you into hellfire? They replied, We did not perform our prayers.” (Kanzul Iman)
The author of “Zia Ul Qur’an”, Allama Peer Karam Shah Azhari alaihir rahmah explains that the people of paradise will ask the people of hell, “What thing led you to be subjected to the severe punishment of hell?” They will reply, “We had two faults which has led us to this punishment. (One of the reasons is) We never used to prostrate before our Creator. We were full of arrogance and never for a moment thought that we need to bow down before the Lord that has given us so many blessings.”

My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam’s beloved devotees! Have you seen the fate of one that misses prayers? If we cannot find the time to bow before our Merciful Creator who provides us sustenance, then this will be our fate as well. If you want to save yourself from the punishment of hell then ensure that you do not miss prayers. May Allah Ta’ala guide us all guide us all to perform our prayers.

Place for Those that Miss Prayers

Allah Ta’ala states, “Then after them came those degenerates who wasted prayer and followed their lusts, then soon they will encounter a valley of the hell.” (Surah Maryam, verse 59)
My Beloved Prophet sallalaho alaihe wasallam’s beloved devotees! The Prophet’s alaihimus salaam, were always aware of the Magnificence of Allah Ta’ala and His anger and their eyes were always moist with tears. However, many people came after the Prophet’s alaihimus salaam that threw away the practices of the pious predecessors. Never mind desirable or preferable acts; they threw away a great compulsory worship like prayer (Namaz). Either they did not agree that it was a compulsory worship, or they did not want to go through the trouble of fulfilling it. Never mind fulfilling it, they did not even respect the orders and commands of Allah Ta’ala but were too busy in fulfilling their desires. They must remember that they will have to pay for their crime.

Result of Missing Prayers

One day Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam was talking about prayers and said, “Whoever performs these prayers punctually, they will be light for him on the day of judgement and will lead to his forgiveness. The person that does not pray will not have any light and will not be forgiven. He will be with Qaroon, Fir’aun, Haamaan and Ubai Bin Khalaf on the day of judgement.” (Masnad Tibraani)

Importance of Prayer

Importance of prayer (Salah)
1. Salah is an act of worship:
It is not a custom. It is not a ritual.
It is very special. It has no equal.
  It has no alternative.
  There are no excuses,
  even when you are ill,
on a journey or even in a war.

2. Salah is the second and most important pillar of Islam.

3. Salah is a practical sign of obedience to the commands of Allah. It is the practical proof of our faith in Allah and Islam.

4. Salah is the only distinction between a Mo’min and a non-Mo’min.

5. Salah reminds you of Allah (SWT), when you get up in the morning, it reminds you three more times when you are busy during the day, and once again before you go to bed.

6. Salah is a direct contact or link between the worshipper and Allah with no earthly intermediaries. It is the Me’raaj of a Mo’min.

7. Salah builds a strong defense against evils which exist around us. It is said in the Holy Qur’an that, surely, Salah keeps you away from indecency and evil. This is why the prayer is described as “remembrance” to Allah (SWT).

8. Salah wipes out our sins: Prophet Muhammad (SAAWS) once asked his companions “Tell me if there was a river at the door step of one of you in which you washed 5 times a day would any of your dirt remain?” When he received the reply that none of it would remain he then said “That is like the 5 times Salah, with which Allah (SWT) wipes out sin.

9. Salah was the last will of the Prophet (SAAWS). As his soul departed he said with his last breaths: As-Salah, As-Salah.

10. Salah is the first thing that a person is judged by on the Day of Judgement. If it was good, the rest of all his deeds will be good. But if it was poor, the rest of all his deeds will be poor.

Concept about prayer
Prayer is the basis of all good actions. Below are quoted two passages of the Quran, both of which list a number of good actions. Prayer comes before and after all good actions:-

Quran says:

(But after them there followed future generations who lost the Prayers and followed after lusts. Soon, then, will they face destruction)
(S19, A59).

And establish regular prayer and give zakah and obey the Messenger, that you may receive mercy]
(S24, A56)

[And be steadfast in prayer; give zakah and bow down your heads with those who bow down 'in worship] (S2, A43)

[They are those who, if We establish them in the land, establish regular prayer and give zakah, enjoin the right and forbid the wrong. With Allah rests the end (and decision) of (all) affairs]
(S22, A41)

The Prophet (SAAWS) also says when you witness a person that regularly attends to the mosque for prayers it is a testimony of his faith.
[The mosques of Allah shall be visited and maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last day, and establish regular prayer] (S9, A18)

Allah almighty says:

"Say (O Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to mankind): 'If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic monotheism, follow the Quran and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.' And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (3:31)

"Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their Salat (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissiveness. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk, falsehoods and all that Allah has forbidden). And those who pay the Zakat. And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts). Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, -for then, they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors. Those who are faithfully true to their trusts and to their covenants. And those who strictly guard their Salat (five compulsory congregational prayers at their fixed stated hours). These are indeed the inheritors. Who shall inherit the Firdaus (Paradise). They shall dwell therein forever."
Surah al-Muminun (23:1-11)

Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; and niggardly when good touches him. Except those devoted to Salat (prayers), those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers), and those in whose wealth there is a known right, for the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened). And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, and those who fear the torment of their Lord. Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure. And those who guard their chastity (ie, private parts from illegal sexual acts), except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, -for (then) they are not to be blames. But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. And those who keep their trusts and covenants, and those who stand firm in their testimonies, and those who guard their Salat (prayers) well; such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honored."
Surah Al-Maarif: (70:19-35)
Allah Almighty says in the Quran:

"O you who believer! Seek help in patience and Salat (prayer). Truly! Allah is with the patient." (2:153)

In Hadiat:

Allah's Messenger Peace Be Upon Him once said:

"Prayer is the pillar of religion." (Al-Baihaqi)

The Prophet Peace Be Upon Him also said:

"Islam is erected on five pillars: to testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger; to establish prayer; to pay Zakat; to perform Hajj to the Sacred House, and to fast in the month of Ramadan."
(Bukhari, Muslim)

The prayer is of such vital importance that the Prophet Peace Be Upon Him said:
"Verily, between man and between polytheism and unbelief is the negligence of prayer." (Muslim)

Benifites of prayer

There is a great reward when Salah is offered in Jama’ah.
Salah gives us both Worldly and Spiritual benefits;

1. ISLAMIC EQUALITY:
In the congregation, rich and poor, high and low, all stand shoulder to shoulder. It is the best scene of mankind’s equality.

2. UNITY:
In this Salah all have one Niyyah, one language and identical actions. All kneel together, all go to Sajdah together.
This teaches us the lesson that we, as Muslims, should be united at all times.

3. LOVE AND CO-OPERATION:
People meet with one another in the Jama’ah Salah. They know the hardships and worries of one another and try to help each other. New things are known there. Mutual love develops. Circle of friendship is widened. We get an opportunity to perfect our life in the light of others experiences.

4. DISCIPLINE:
While offering Salah in Jamat we stand in rows, follow the Imam of Jama’ah and practice obedience to Allah, this forces discipline in us, which is the essential feature of a community’s life.

5. PRESTIGE OF ISLAM:
Our Mosques remain thriving – due to Salah in Jama’ah. It enhances the prestige of Muslims, and the Unity of Muslims affects greatly the enemies.

6. LIMITLESS REWARD:
Allah has put a big reward for Jama’ah Salah. Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) has laid great emphasis on Jama’ah Salah.
Therefore we should offer Jama’ah Salah as often as possible. We should know also know that if there are more than 10 people in Jama’ah, then nobody can estimate its limitless reward except Allah.
My last point is that we must all strive to maintain and protect our mosque, for it is this establishment that will hopefully look after our children and their children. Please invest in this mosque, both financially and with your efforts.

Divorce in ISLAM

Divorce in view of Islam

Divorce (Talaaq) In Islam And Quran - Introduction

Marriage and divorce are two basics of our family system. Beginning of a new family starts when two male and females decide living together after a formal marriage contract. In Islam, marriage can not become a valid legal contract till both male and female (infront of at least two males or one male & 2 females as witness) freely agrees on it. Willing of the bachelor female's wali (her father or other legal patron) is another requirement for the assistance of the female as she alone could not select the right life partner for her. However, it is no more required if she is re-marrying after the divorce or the death of her husband. Marriage of a minor or underage girl can be done by her wali's wish alone. Quran allows such marriage of minor girls in surat talq-4. According to Islamic scholars, such minor girl have the right to cancel her marriage as when she becomes adult if she is not yet handed over to her husband.

Hadiat on Divorce
Allah did not make anything lawful more abominable to Him than Divorce. Of all the lawful acts the most detestable to Allah is Divorce.(Sunan Abu dawud: Book #12, Hadith #2172-2173)

Types of Divorce
1. The first type is by unilateral… by unilateral agreement, between the husband and wife - Both may say… 'Okay, we are not compatible… let us part'.

2.The second type, is by the unilateral will of the husband, that is called a 'Talaq', in which, he has to forgo his 'Meher'. If he has not paid it, he has to pay it to her… and including the gifts, he has given to her.

3.Third type, is by the unilateral will of the wife - I repeat, by the unilateral will of the wife… if she mentions it in her marriage contract. If she mentions it in her Nikah-Nama… in her marriage contract, that she has the right to give unilateral divorce, she can give it - It is call as 'Isma'. I have never heard of anyone speaking of an 'Isma' - It is called as 'Isma' - Even a woman can give divorce, 'Isma'.

4. Fourth category is, if the husband ill-treats her, or not give her equal rights, she has the right to go to a Kazi or court for divorce, and nullify the marriage - It is called as 'Nikah-e-Fask'. In this, according to the Kazi, he may ask the husband to give the full 'Meher', or part of the 'Meher', depending upon the Kazi.

5.And the last is 'Khulah'- that even though the husband may be a very good husband, the wife has got no complaints against the husband, but for personal reasons, she does not like the husband - she can request the husband, to divorce her - and that is called as 'Khulah'.

Quranic Verses about Divorse

1)And divorced women shall wait (as regards their marriage) for three menstrual periods, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs, if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have the better right to take them back in that period, if they wish for reconciliation. And they (women) have rights (over their husbands as regards living expenses) similar (to those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect) to what is reasonable, but men have a degree (of responsibility) over them. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. (Al-Baqara-228)

2)The divorce is twice, after that, either you retain her on reasonable terms or release her with kindness. And it is not lawful for you (men) to take back (from your wives) any of your Mahr (bridal - money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) which you have given them, except when both parties fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah (e.g. to deal with each other on a fair basis). Then if you fear that they would not be able to keep the limits ordained by Allah, then there is no sin on either of them if she gives back (the Mahr or a part of it) for her Al-Khul' (divorce). These are the limits ordained by Allah, so do not transgress them. And whoever transgresses the limits ordained by Allah, and then such are the Zâlimûn (wrong-doers). (Al-Baqara-229)

3)And if he has divorced her (the third time), then she is not lawful unto him thereafter until she has married another husband. Then, if the other husband divorces her, it is no sin on both of them that they reunite, provided they feel that they can keep the limits ordained by Allah. These are the limits of Allâh, which He makes plain for the people who have knowledge. (Al-Baqara- 230)

4)O you who believe! When you marry believing women, and then divorce them before you have sexual intercourse with them, no iddah (divorce prescribed period) have you to count in respect of them. So give them a present, and set them free (i.e. divorce), in a handsome manner. (Al-Ahzab-49)

5)O Prophet! when ye do divorce women, divorce them at their prescribed periods, and count (accurately), their prescribed periods: and fear Allah your Lord: and turn them not out of their houses, nor shall they (themselves) leave, except in case they are guilty of some open lewdness. Those are limits set by Allah: and any who transgresses the limits of Allah, does verily wrong his (own) soul: thou knowest not if perchance Allah will bring about thereafter some new situation.

Thus when they fulfil their term appointed, either take them back on equitable terms or part with them on equitable terms; and take for witness two persons from among you, endued with justice, and establish the evidence (as) before Allah. Such is the admonition given to him who believes in Allah and the Last Day.  And for those who fear Allah, He (ever) prepares a way out

And He provides for him from (sources) he never could imagine.  And if anyone puts his trust in Allah, sufficient is (Allah) for him.  For Allah will surely accomplish His purpose: verily, for all things has Allah appointed a due proportion.

Such of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the prescribed period, if ye have any doubts, is three months, and for those who have no courses (it is the same): for those who carry (life within their wombs) their period is until they deliver their burdens: and for those who fear Allah, He will make their path easy.

That is the Command of Allah which He has sent down to you: And if anyone fears Allah He will remove his ills from him, and will enlarge His reward.

Let the women live (in ‘iddah) in the same style as ye live, according to your means: annoy them not, so as to restrict them.  And if they carry (life in their wombs), then spend (your substance) on them until they deliver their burden: and if they suckle your (offspring), give them their recompense: and take mutual counsel together, according to what is just and reasonable.  And if ye find yourselves in difficulties let another woman suckle (the child) on the (father’s) behalf.

Let the man of means spend according to his means: and the man whose resources are restricted, let him spend according to what Allah has given him.  Allah puts no burden on any person beyond what he has given him.  After a difficulty, Allah will soon grant relief.

How many populations that insolently opposed the command of their Lord and of His messengers did We not then call to account― to severe account?― And We imposed on them an exemplary Punishment.

Quran 65:1- 8

Rules of Islam about Divorce

1. Husband can give maximum three divorces to his wife.

2. After one or two divorces, he has right to take back his divorcee within iddah period and after iddah period he can re-marry with her.

3. If three divorces have been given, husband has no right to take back his divorcee.

4. After three divorces, husband can not re-marry with her divorcee till she marries with another person and get divorce from that person. This is called halalah in Islamic shariyat.

5. Iddah of a divorcee woman is three menstrual periods. Only after this period, she can marry to any one else.

6. No iddah period is required if woman is divorced before sexual intercourse.

7. Iddah of a widow woman is four lunar months and ten days.

8. Iddah of a pregnant widow or divorce woman is the period till she delivered the child.

Instruction of Islam

1. Do not divorce a woman during her menstrual periods. Divorce should only be given in her that neat and clean period in which sexual intercourse is not done. Woman can be divorced if she is pregnant. It should be noted that divorce will be still valid if it is granted against these quranic instructions. However they will be considered as sinful.

2. After having divorce, woman should stay to her husband's home till the end of iddah i.e. three menstrual periods. She should not leave her husband's home nor should her husband force her to leave home.

3. While divorcing a woman, man should witnessed two persons. Please note that witnessing is better for both parties. Otherwise divorce will be legally valid without witness too.

4. Iddah period of old women is three lunar months if she is no more menstruating.

5. Iddah period of a minor or underage girl is also three lunar months if she has not yet started menstruating. Quran here not only allows marrying with such minor girl but also allows sexual intercourse with underage wife. Because there is no iddah period of untouched divorced wife as mentioned surah Al-Ahzab-49.

6. During iddah period, husband is responsible to bear expenses of his divorced wife.

7. If divorced wife is pregnant, the man is responsible to bear all her expense till delivery and expense of his child after birth as well.

WISH (In view of Islam)

Ten Ahadees (Hadiath) about WISH

1) Narated By Abu Huraira : I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "By Him in Whose Hands my life is! Were it not for some
men who dislike to be left behind and for whom I do not have means of conveyance, I would not stay away (from
any Holy Battle). I would love to be martyred in Allah's Cause and come to life and then get, martyred and then
come to life and then get martyred and then get resurrected and then get martyred.

(Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 333)

2) Narated By Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, "If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, I would love that, before
three days had passed, not a single Dinar thereof remained with me if I found somebody to accept it excluding
some amount that I would keep for the payment of my debts.''

(Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 335)

3) Narated By 'Aisha : One night the Prophet was unable to sleep and said, "Would that a righteous man from my
companions guarded me tonight." Suddenly we heard the clatter of arms, whereupon the Prophet said, "Who is
it?" It was said, "I am Sa'd, O Allah's Apostle! I have come to guard you." The Prophet then slept so soundly that
we heard him snoring. Abu 'Abdullah said: 'Aisha said: Bilal said, "Would that I but stayed overnight in a valley with
Idhkhir and Jalil (two kinds of grass) around me (i.e., in Mecca)." Then I told that to the Prophet.

(Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 338)

4)Narated By Qais : We went to pay a visit to Khabbab bin Al-Art and he had got himself branded at seven spots
over his body. He said, "If Allah's Apostle had not forbidden us to invoke Allah for death, I would have invoked for
it."

Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 341

5) Narated By Al-Bara' bin 'Azib : The Prophet was carrying earth with us on the day of the battle of Al-Ahzab
(confederates) and I saw that the dust was covering the whiteness of his abdomen, and he (the Prophet) was
saying, "(O Allah) ! Without You, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given in charity, nor would
we have prayed. So (O Allah!) please send tranquillity (Sakina) upon us as they, (the chiefs of the enemy tribes)
have rebelled against us. And if they intend affliction (i.e. want to frighten us and fight against us) then we would
not (flee but withstand them). And the Prophet used to raise his voice with it. (See Hadith No. 430 and 432, Vol. 5)

Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 343.

6)Narated By Abu Huraira : Allah's Apostle said, "Were I not afraid that it would be hard on my followers, I would
order them to use the siwak (as obligatory, for cleaning the teeth)."

Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 347.

7) Narated By Abu Huraira : Allah's Apostle said, "But for the emigration, I would have been one of the Ansar: and if
the people took their way in a valley (or a mountain pass), I would take the Ansar's valley or the mountain pass."

Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 351.

8)Narated By Jabir bin Abdullah : We were in the company of Allah's Apostle and we assumed the state of Ihram of
Hajj and arrived at Mecca on the fourth of Dhul-Hijja. The Prophet ordered us to perform the Tawaf around the
Ka'ba and (Sa'i) between As-Safa and Al-Marwa and use our Ihram just for 'Umra, and finish the state of Ihram
unless we had our Hadi with us. None of us had the Hadi with him except the Prophet and Talha. 1AIj came from
Yemen and brought the Hadi with him. 'Ali said, 'I had assumed the state of Ihram with the same intention as that
with which Allah's Apostle had assumed it. The people said, "How can we proceed to Mina and our male organs
are dribbling?" Allah's Apostle said, "If I had formerly known what I came to know latterly, I would not have brought
the Hadi, and had there been no Hadi with me, I would have finished my Ihram." Suraqa (bin Malik) met the
Prophet while he was throwing pebbles at the Jamrat-al-'Aqaba, and asked, "O Allah's Apostle! Is this (permitted)
for us only?" The Prophet replied. "No, it is forever" 'Aisha had arrived at Mecca while she was menstruating,
therefore the Prophet ordered her to perform all the ceremonies of Hajj except the Tawaf around the Ka'ba, and
not to perform her prayers unless and until she became clean. When they encamped at Al-Batha, 'Aisha said, "O
Allah's Apostle! You are proceeding after performing both Hajj and 'Umra while I am proceeding with Hajj only?"
So the Prophet ordered 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr As-Siddiq to go with her to At-Tan'im, and so she
performed the 'Umra in Dhul-Hijja after the days of the Hajj.

Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 337.

9)Narated By Abu Huraira : Allah's Apostle said, "Not to wish to be the like except of two men. A man whom Allah has
given the (knowledge of the) Qur'an and he recites it during the hours of night and day and the one who wishes
says: If I were given the same as this (man) has been given, I would do what he does, and a man whom Allah has
given wealth and he spends it in the just and right way, in which case the one who wishes says, 'If I were given the
same as he has been given, I would do what he does.'" (See Hadith No. 543 and 544, Vol 6)

Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 339.

10)Narated By 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa : Allah's Apostle said, "Do not long for meeting your enemy, and ask Allah for
safety (from all sorts of evil)." (See Hadith No. 266, Vol. 4)

Volumn 009, Book 090, Hadith Number 344.

Quotes of Immam shafi
“If you fear becoming deluded and impressed by your deeds then remember whose pleasure you are seeking, and the joy (paradise) in which you want to be, and what punishment you fear. Whoever thinks about these things will diminish his deeds.” – Imam Shafi”

‘Do you mock the supplication and belittle it?
While you do not know what it has the power to do!
The arrows of the night (du’a) do not miss target
But they have a set limit, which shall come to end
So if my Lord wishes, He holds it back
And if the decree is to be fulfilled, He sets it forth
.

“I never debated with a knowledgeable person except that I won the debate, and I have never debated with an ignorant person except that I lost.” ~ Imam Shafi’
